Godfrey started singing at the age of approx. 18 years old, eventually became a member of a Choir known as The Merry Bell Gospel Choir, where he also sang as a soloist.
Godfrey won The Stevie Wonder Award in 1989 for Best Male Gospel Choir Soloist. This afforded him the privilege to both meet and share the stage with the Maestro himself during his appearance at the NEC.
